Take off the two ends of the clasp; slip beads off the necklace and shift them around, change the tassel to make a necklace which looks entirely different. Plus the tassel back on first (one thickness of the chain), to block the beads and spacer beads anyway you wish, then put the double-sided clasp back on. Voila – new necklace!

Hommage to Potholders
….there’s history in those quilted squares! Ancient Greek art evidences swatches of material used to hold hot-handled pots, but the first home-made square potholders came into fashion with the “Antislavery Bazaars” held in Boston in 1855. Handsewn to include the phrase “Any holder but a Slave Holder”, potholder crafting became a subtle way for nineteenth century women to show their support for the Abolitionist cause.

In the twenty-first century, AAWE Handicrafts continues the potholder crafting tradition (and supports the activities of our association). Our yearly selection of this “ultimate utilitarian kitchen necessity” is a popular gift item you can easily pop into an envelope and send to friends and famlly.
